Pocketed springs are open ended coil springs which are individually encased in a cloth pocket and nestle together inside a flat steel frame to form a unit. Pocketed mattresses function best when they are used in conjunction with either a sprung edge or firm edge base.

The feel of the product is dictated by the number of springs in the mattress, the gauge of the spring and how the pockets are held together.

Pocketed mattresses allow each sleeper to move without affecting their partner because as the springs are individual there is no "ripple effect".
