Beautiful antique Louis XVth style bedstead in quarterveneer Walnut on solid Walnut frame with rich colouring in the wood and lovely swooping lines. Very good quality carving in crest, on "shoulders",footboard,legs and side rails. A truly lovely example of this style of bed.

Walnut wood

Walnut is the primary hardwood for some of the finest antique furniture.
The wood is moderately heavy, very strong, and exceptionally stable. The colour varies from light gray-brown to dark purplish-brown, patterns from plain to highly figured.
The wood is readily polished and develops a rich patina that grows more lustrous with age.
